#8 Last time I was there Brian the booze was limited to 2 days a week when the taverns got their rations. Although could be bought on the Black Market. Castro blamed the American Blockade for this. Used to be one helluva place when Batista was in. Cheers John Sabourn

Did anyone go to Boquerón just outside the wire to Guantanamo Bay U.S. Naval Base, on the eastern side if my geography is right. Was a bar on the quayside so didn't have far to go Cheers John Sabourn

Re: Holiday AWOL
Hi again,
In answer to your questions.
Cuba is still Cuba.
Sun, sand, and beautiful ladies.
I did manage to sink a few rums. Havana Club Dark being my favorite.
We stayed at the Blau Marina, Varadelo. Two hours drive from Havana.
Our area was adult only. About thirty of us in total. No one on the beach. Water temp, 20c.
Did a day trip in to Havana.
Poverty along the way is pretty bad.
Interesting how they have blended in the old town and new buildings.
In Varadelo, resorts are going up all over the place. Maybe getting ready for the Yank invasion!
My daughter took a load on baby clothes, mainly dresses, for the staff. All packed in my case. Thank goodness I didn't have to open it at Customs!
Also things like pens etc, are hard to get there.
All in all, a good place for a holiday.
Thanks for all of your comments.
That is except for Johns, regarding my Tab Nabs!
Den.

Re: Holiday AWOL
I was there on the Cotopaxi the day that the "Bay Of Pigs Battle" took place I dont know if they waited until we left Havana but it kicked off shortly after we left.It was a strange feeling there, not one were you could relax and let yourself go.Young lads looked about 14 years of age dressed like Castro and with the gun on their shoulder and a tray (like we have our poppy trays)collecting money for a Cuban flag with Viva La Cuba on.Many Russian ships there I think their gangways went up about 7pm for some reason. We visited a few bars which were very quite,no girls about and no music playing. The "Dos Hermanos" two brothers bar in Havana, the last time I met these two guys was in Tenerife when I was on the cruises on the Empress Of Britain they had left Cuba and opened a bar there.
Regards.
