Truck diesel is that Red diesel? we refer to that agricultural fuel, not permited to used in Diesel cars as it is VAT free?

Here in Oz farm diesel is exempt from GST.

In the UK road vehicles are taxed twice namely VAT and fuel duty, diesel that is used for off road use e.g. farm tractors, dump trucks, bulldozers, marine etc. is dyed red.
It has a reduced rate of VAT (was 5%) not the standard 20%. It also has a lower rate of fuel duty which makes it much cheaper (currently about 75p /ltr against £1.35 or thereabouts for road diesel) than road legal fuels.
If you are caught with red diesel in your tank then you will be liable to a hefty fine and possible vehicle seizure.

It will surely happen, I think that they should pay the same as everyone else. Electric vehicles are heavier than their petrol or disel equivalents, wear tyres and brakes out more quickly and hence pollute the environment, take LPG for instance it wasnt long before they started bumping more tax on that, not that you see many LPG pumps these days.

Just wondering how they would know that you had red diesel in your tank. Just got this mental image of someone stopping them to test the tank lol. Then again if you wanted to pay someone back just tip red dye into their tank and phone the authorities and once again LOL

Farm diesel exempt from tax as I said.

Fuel tax is set at currently 44centys per liter with GST on top of that.
But our total fuel tax is about 60% of UK in total.

Thats exactly what they do, they have a length of tubing and a squeezable plastic bottle to suck up a sample, however it is the customs & excise dept. responsibility, although if police catch you they just hand you over. Ireland do same , only the dye is green.

Back to "Dockers Power." I wasn't impressed. As a young boy in the 60s I was "helping" my brother delivering carpets to the London Docks. The carpets about four at a time were in big hessian bags and weighted a few cwt. A dozen burly dockers watched as my brother and I sweated and struggled to get slings under the loads so one of them could press a button to hoist them off the flat bed truck. My opinion of the salt of the earth "men" was formed that day.

Here in NZ EVs are now subject to road user charges. This system is the same for diesel engined vehicles. Excise fuel tax was the standard for petrol vehicles and included in the price at the pump. Because of the marine and agricultural uses of diesel this tax was not included in the pump price thus RUCs. These charges are based on estimated mileage covered and must be paid in advance. I have a Mini EV and recently paid for 3000 Ks of road use. I understand that all vehicles will eventually be brought under the RUC umbrella in order to simplify the roading taxation. As an aside, when NZ introduced GST there were a number of exclusions. One was taxes paid. Excise duty is a tax on fuel so for donkeys years the government has been charging GST on the total cost of fuel at the pump which includes excise duty (tax). Letters to the editor on this issue are repeatedly ignored.
