    Default Australian Immigration

Australian Immigration. I didn’t become a citizen until 1994 , three years after arrival. Due I believe to have to have at least 2 years domiciled in Australia. As I was in and out of country being a seafarer it was 3 years before I managed to stay in Australian waters for 2 consecutive years. On my certificate of citizenship apart from name ,date of Birth and date of becoming a citizen , the only piece of information is in the bottom left hand corner where there is a number of letters and figures for record purposes I assume.
Seperately with the certificate comes the pledge which in my case is titled Pledge No. 2. Affirmation. So maybe different nationalities take different pledges ???
“ From this time forward ,I pledge my Loyality to Australia and its people, whose Democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and libertys I respect , and whose laws I will uphold and obey.”
There is no referral to king or queen or any royalty , maybe in other pledges for other original nationality’s there is , anyone know ??? JS

    Can you please assist

Moved to own Thread JS , know it sort of related to the question by Jessica, but want to try and keep Questions of the like by themselves
    Cheers

    Ours was the same JS
We had to be here for 2 Years , then applied for Citizenship in 1982.

However My Wife relinquished her South African Citizenship , once all was approved for the Australian Side!
I kept my South African Citizenship, and Passport still do, and hold Dual.

Have used my SA Passport to Enter South Africa, and Leave there makes it easy !

Just checked mine out and there is nothing to say about doing a pledge. Mind you I do know that I refused to pledge alligance to the Queen and did the affirmation. Also made sure that it did not entail any ritual. Just lobbed up at the council and did it there. Arrived this time in Jan 1969 and took the citizenship in 1990 because I was illegal for that time. The sheriff wanted me to do it as she was suspect that this was not my real name lol. Reason for affirmation was that I considered that I was already alligned to the Queen by being English by birth. I did get told by immigration that if I had gone back to the UK and then flown out I would have been refused entry because of having been deported two times before. All I wanted was to check the place out before commiting lol. Vern I think that you had better be a good boy with these new rules in about sending dual citizens back to their orignal country that they are dual citizen too.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

#4 Did the same only two of us in the council chambers 5 minutes and out . No ceremony’s think there was one witness there a council worker. Have been in other peoples houses from various different parts of the world and they have them framed on their walls, it must be very welcome to some from very unorthodox regions of this mad world we live in. The seperate affirmation is marked number two , so those is obviously a number 1 , but how many after number two. And how much more is there to the oath of fidelity ? JS
