    Hi my Grandads name was
Joesphes George Hibberd his Date of Birth was 23.10.1913 . His date of death was 3rd .11 1963 .
I'm not sure how many years he was in the merchant navy , but I do know he was on the Queen Mary and that he used to collect the new torpedo boats for the navy , that's how he met my Nanna she would hand over the torpedo boats to my grandad . Nannas name was Katherine Mary Croft.

Did he die in Newton Lancashire England!?

I have not seen yet seen any trace of him in the Archives but will continue to look!
    Cheers

If he was in the Service there could be a CRS10 for him though, will look for the Link and post later!

Added Heywood F M to Higgins A | The National Archives

The above Link should hold his Records if still available , it will give Service from 1946 to 1972 which would include his time . Earlier Records if available i have not yet been able to find so ???
    Good Luck.
Dont know when he joined , as said i cannot see any records for his Seamans Pouch which woud cover any periods prior to 1946 ??

Original Service Record may be held at Southampton Archives

    Email:city.archives@southampton.gov.uk

Central Index Register (aka Fourth Register of Seamen), 1918-1941

Search and download registry cards from the Central Index Register (BT 348, BT 349, BT 350 and BT 364) of merchant seamen employed between 1918 and 1941 on Findmypast.co.uk (charges apply). The originals are held by Southampton Archives.
