Blind Spot?
I am sure she will have a camera up forward somewhere? But how would that fair shipping a rather large green one over the bow. Be curious as to what benefit and fuel savings that makes for the owners?l-gallery37.jpg
Looking again at the photo I wonder if the sail can be hydraulically lowerd to rest on the hatch cover? or do they just feather it?

Keith, its a vertical wind turbine which charges up batteries in the double bottoms so it can switch to electric when operating in congested waterways.

Re: Blind Spot?
They can also be lowered hydraulically to hatch level for river/bridge transits, similar to the old steam powered flattie's funnel, but at least they ain't going to choke you whilst on aft stations under the bridges

Re: Blind Spot?
Shofu Maru is the ship. She enetered service 2022 . They reckon on her trading routes Newcastle Australia to Japan it will reduce emissions by 5% and the Japan west coast USA this figure will rise to a saving of 8%. The wind sail is up to 53metres x 15 metres and is also telescopic21.jpg There is a photo of how the sail actually works but I cannot get it to load. It looks as if there are vanes that operate vertically like the flaps on an aircraft wing. This spins the sail and thereby forward motion of the ship. If you look at the first photo with thesail extened and the second imagine with the sail retracted.

Re: Blind Spot?
Tony 3, obviously went down the wrong road there , but interesting, and as said, bit of a blind spot.
