Re: John Thomas Johnson
I believe he may have connections to the Brixham area as the enquiry came from there. The shipping company house flag was a cream oblong with a red border and red diagonals. The lettering was in black with the H in the top triangle, D in the mast triangle, the I in the fly triangle and the Co in the bottom triagle.

Re: John Thomas Johnson
Hi Patrick, Due to process of elimination and to quicken the search do you have John's position on ship or his parents/wife's name for cross reference purposes?
Re Flag detail and Ship's Company initials, hoping other more knowledgable members can help with that otherwise it will be a long haul for me

Re: John Thomas Johnson
#4,Vernon, As there were over 120+ John Johnson's on FMP born between 1881-1884 and none for the MN is the reason I was waiting for Patrick to reply to my#3.
From Ancestry:
Think this may be the correct John Thomas Johnson born Manchester Lancashire 1882, living with wife and inlaws, at:
1, Sea View Terrace,N Fwizeham? Brixham, Devon and listed as a Deep Sea Fisherman. Employment status WORKER 4
Still hoping members can suggest the flag quest.

Think this is the Lord George Vessel in question?
LORD GEORGE (ex-ST. GEORGE), hired trawler, Adty No 688. Built 1905, 229grt, Grimsby-reg GY.83. Armament: 1-6pdr AA. In service 2.15-1919 as minesweeper. Served as CEDRIC in WW2.

There is one more for 1919 but will have to search as not in numerical order like the two above!
Will leave the last for Hugh if he doesn't mind and has the time as records now jumping from month to month for January 1919 then reverts back betwwen 1914 1916, 1917, 1918.

Re: John Thomas Johnson
Search for it under Grimsby trawlers, it looks like GY83.
In the 50's Lord Line sailed out of Hull and their vessels would have an 'H' letter preceeding the number, my first trawler was H402 built 1914, but that is a 1922 picture and even I don't go back that far ! But I don't think Lord Line had a 'V' on the funnel
Lord Line Trawlers was a Red funnel with a white band and a black top, so reading from the top was black white and red

Hi Marian,
I can confirm that you have the correct man in the Navy List that corresponds to the RNR record you have found.
