Re: Never seen a ship like this
I remember reading years ago about why she was built like that, bit late now but it may come back to me on my sleepless nights, hopefully racking my brain may send me to sleep

Only thing I can say is that the \Captain must have passed a lot of wind and needed the airflow.

Re: Never seen a ship like this
Further to #2, not much to add I remember reading about her in 'Motorship' of which I was an avid reader at one time, she came out around 1960 the same time as the 'William Wheelwright' (PSNC) and is apart from the bridge of a similar design when owners decided that to keep crews on tankers they had to offer better facilities and and that accommodation aft should become part of the design feature and not just blocks stuck on the poop. As far as m.v. Oddball' is concerned she was a specialised product carrier which had to have straight runs of pipe with a booster pump room halfway which could not be in accommodation, nor under deck hence the bridge shape. It was the early days of all accommodation aft including navigating bridge and she, in those days, was considered too long to have the bridge aft, especially for a vessel trading in the Northern regions with inclement weather and probable restricted visibility; as a navigator you could understand the reasoning at the time, as moving from a midships bridge to aft bridge is a different feeling (at first) even more so in fog. In a midship bridge in fog you could at times not see the foc'le head 150/200 feet away and thought you had a lot of ship in front of you, on an aft bridge in fog you had 500 feet in front of you and could only see #5 and #6 hatch. I will try and restore the old grey matter further but I recall the product was highly volatile so perhaps its just as well there is a large air gap twixt bridge and pump room

Oh! Contre Rodney, as whats-his-name would say. I think she has beautiful lines, just look at that bow and the immense thought that has gone into the poop house design, well the bridge was for practical reasons but still has a certain amount of fluidity of design

It would be hogged Keith, but is more likely an optical illusion caused by the swell whilst she's at anchor, but I've been wrong before
