Wimpey Sealab + father in law

Hi everyone,

Im trying to find out any information on my father in laws time in the merchant navy, his name was John Frederick Russell but usually went by the name of Sam.

One ship I know he was on was the Wimpey Sealab I have looked on 'CLIP' and National Archives etc but could find no crew listings.

He was born in 1940 in cheshire

I have been through 215 Records with that Surname Paula, but have not come up with your Man!
The only other reason that may be is that he was still working at Sea after 1972, as then there were no records kept! ?? Quite possible as Born 1940 would have been about 17 on Joining perhaps , so there are many who were at Sea for long times!
I will keep on looking though and post if i come up with anything!

Ref. Wimpey Sealab I was never on but others I knew did and she was bit different job wise to other Wimpey vessels but at time took very little notice. From 8/9/77 to 19/6/78 I was on the wimpey Seawolf, Seafox, Seadog, Sealion. All or most offshore vessels at the time signed M.T agreements. Your fathers name does not ring any bells. Yes indeed Vernon ,Wimpey Sealab was originally the Elizabeth Bowater,a newsprint carrying cargo ship of 1958 before being converted to a drilling ship in 1972. Finally broken up in 2003.
