Yes agree Des but i really dont know why he does not Post himself in place of all these Cloak and Dagger information pass on,s.

I have in the past quite a few times said that his Status on here is still valid, so no reasone not to Log On ??

But for his own reasons he chooses to stay under wraps! To me a bit silly really, no umbridge meant! He sure has in the past given some good advice and posts!

The Number of the Ship on his Card (last Ship 1930 ) 146294 MATIANA may well be the Ship.
But on the database on Deaths at Sea there is a Dolius 147247 (Ship) listed and is the only entry for 1932 ??

#35. Well Graham, I can't believe it but I am in the middle of reading Eric Newby's book at the moment.

Lot of things missing at sea such as Billiards or Snooker.
Though there were a lot who did play with their balls.

#37 John. I think I have posted this before. My first trip on a tanker, was asked if I wanted to play snooker!!! I know I was green and thought they are taking the p**s but they weren't. A 6'x3' board painted "green" with pockets and hard rubber cushions was produced and set up. The "balls" were flat discs like draughts, with all the colours. Once I became used to it I found I played rather well. Then I made a "BALLS-UP" I beat the C/ENG. and found out what "Field Days" were.

Did hear that the concept of snooker tables on gimbles was once considered.
Not sure if it ever happened though.

Wouldn’t have worked John they had to be gimbals . Should have tried first with hammock ropes . Could have just given the table a slight nudge with the hand to assist the ball into the pocket.? JS

Never saw deck snooker but did see deck golf on the Sir John Hunter sister ship to the Derbyshire. The holes and tees were painted on the deck and we used something like a ice hokey puck for the ball.
