Flat irons
I am having trouble getting the right colour scheme for a Flat Iron Collier.
I presume the main hull colour is Black with Red boot topping.
Accommadation in light brown.
Then its what colour are the decks ,hatch sides, and anything i have missed.
i have had a look in our picture gallery but most of the pictures are Black and White.
Can anyone confirm some of the colours.
Thankyou..

Re: Flat irons
Hi Mike
When I was on one of Corries colliers we used to load alongside Flat Irons and pass them up and down the coast, all I can remember is black and brown, when you could see them that is, any slight seas and they disappeared. I remember one was run over by an Everard ship and most of the crew were drowned, they had some cadets aboard, they only fond out who had run them down when they saw damage to the Everard ship and worked out her trips.

#3. Was that Cories of Cardiff Des ? . I was 3 mate on the Brocklemoor in Leith when sold to them. The chief mate they sent up to relieve our mate seemed ancient to me at the time me being only 20 . All he wanted to do was to
Get someone to sit with while he expounded on his sailing ship days. How I wished I had sat and listened , might have learned a lot more than know today. Today the tables are turned and wonder how many have written us off as a byegone age. It maybe bygone but was a more likeable era than today. Cheers JS

Don't be silly John! Mike wants to know what colour your flat irons are-a photo would be appreciated if you can retrieve them from the loft!Shaking Finger.gif

Re: Flat irons
Good to see Ivan looking in again!
I found a colour photo of EWELL of 1958 built for SEGB,London, shown in Tilbury in 1968,but I don't know if that is in that company's typical livery.

Re: Flat irons
Ivan,
I knew someone in the membership had worked on them, but could not remember who.
Thankyou for the information, were the insides of the cargo holds a grey colour ?
Best regards.
