Canadian MN flag
The local military museum has just contacted me regarding MN day September 3.
We are trying to make it bigger and better this year.
Some confusion has arisen regarding the Canadian MN ensign.
Looking it up on Google, I find that it is the 'Red Duster' with a crest.
Some here argue that it was the 'Red Duster' the same as the British.
I am sure I recall seeing a Canadian ship flying the Red flag with crest.
Can anyone confirm.
Den.

Re: Canadian MN flag
Not seen that one mate but do recall something about the Canadian flag and the reason for change with the old one in some form of conflict with the Red Ensign.

Re: Canadian MN flag
It may have been the Ontario provincial flag, it has a crest in the ensign.

Re: Canadian MN flag
When I worked on the Great Lakes in 1958, on MV Dundee, we flew the U.K. Red Ensign and we’re continually being called a Canadian vessel while in USA , no matter how often we used to loudly state that we were from Scotland

Re: Canadian MN flag
The Canadian Red Ensign was the de facto Canadian national flag from 1868 until 1965 when it was replaced by the maple leaf design. Based on the ensign flown by British merchant ships since 1707, the three successive formal designs of the Canadian Red Ensign bore the Canadian coats of arms of 1868, 1921 and 1957.

Re: Canadian MN flag
Strange how things happen.
With the help of the Military museum, we are going to advertise for any MN living in the community.
We hope to make September 3 bigger and better than previous years.
My son was selling his truck.
Who showed up to buy it, but an ex MN British seaman.
Is that ' carma' or what!
Will put him to work real quick.
Den.
