    Happy to help Colin

Both are primary records in the Fifth Register of Seamen 1941-1972.

BT 372 is where Seamen's Pouches (RS 3) are held. A Seaman's Pouch is a sort of safety deposit box if you will, where documents were stored such as ID photos and other forms such as CR1 cards which a seaman filled in when applying for a discharge book, a continuation or for a replacement. If a seaman had previous service covered by the Fourth Register of Seamen 1918-1940 then usually his cards were transferred into the Seaman's Pouch (RS 3) which is held in BT 372.

BT 382 is where his primary service record 1941-1972 is held - this is his CRS 10 form and documents all of his ships, including dates and places of engagement and discharge among other things. A bit of a messy document but we are here to help should you need a breakdown of it.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards
    Hugh

Many thanks. We are hoping to visit Kew next Tuesday to see what we can find in both BT 372 & BT 382. No doubt there will be some questions to ask if we do find his records.

I have checked BT 372 - there appears to be nothing for him. Many were destroyed in the late sixties for reasons unknown. Good luck with the CRS 10.
