Re: Policing American style
It is very hard to spend money in Tahiti Lewis, The Tahitians are big hearted and generous people,
This year is the first time I have been able to treat them they have always for many many years refused me to spend money there. So this year I had booked the Best Restaurant in Pape`ete, `Captain Blighs,` and had told the manager that only to accept my credit card and not my guests. They looked a little upset that I had done so,
They enjoy giving presents, but we always do take a few things from England for them, I have a house full of Tahitian gifts.
So unless you know these lovely people please do NOT insult them, they are Not like your evil frogs who are practicing Genocide on them.
Brian

Re: Policing American style
I think many of us have been held up or had a gun pointed at us in other lands should our police carry guns? a few years ago I would have said no? today I would say yes? there are to many kids with guns and not scared of using them its a sad state of affairs but its the sign of the times its not the gun that kills its the person? jp

Re: Policing American style
Lewis , you live in froggy france and know nothing of what your people are doing.
If you are not too mean with your money , go there and watch the genocide of a lovely race of people who put france to shame with their dignity.
a plane leaves Paris every evening and takes 24 hours and ten minutes to FAA Airport by Pape`ette. BE THERE.
and you Les are just another ignoramus, you know nothing of the South Pacific and what is going on there. carry on with your wacky backy.
Brian.

Re: Policing American style
Yes John
That in a way is correct,Johannesburg is a no go for sure,Durban is also a place one has to tread soflty especially at Night!
But as said Cape Town ,Port Elizabeth,East Lobdon, and many other parts of South Africa are really good still.
The Free State is great, with the mainly Afrikaans people some of the best and kindest around!
Cheers
But yes as you know the Non Whites had a bad time for so long,is it a wonder that the Whites are despised by I would say 50% of them, there are the other 50% that still are very decent people ,so its not all bad!
Cheers

Lewis, I think you are not a little jealous of my travels to Tahiti, a place where you could never be accepted by those lovely people. I don't think you would last too long there.

Re: Policing American style
Any nation that has been controlled or subjugated by another regardless of colour or religion those under the heel of the boot will rise and cast off their oppressors.
So why should the Black man show any love for his white opressors. And that is why South Africa is why it is today. It will take a hundred years at least for both races to accept each other.
At the time of the formation of the Irish free state / Eire. The outgoing governor general said to Michael Collins we could have put another 50,000 troops into this place and kept it.
Michael Collins reply , yes you could , but you would have had to keep them here.

Re: Policing American style
Re. Eire, think have put this on before, sailed with a chief engineer who was on a ship running from Blyth to one of the ports in Eire. It was the only ship I beleive ever sunk by the IRA. The way he told the story was comical and had me in stitches. Without all the preamble they were anchored off. Had watched a movie in the mess room and he was on his way to bed about 9 at night. Suddenly a banging on the door and opening was this figure in a balaclava pointing a assault rifle at him. He thought was one of the crowd dressed up and told him to eff off and got a dig in the ribs for giving lip. Realised then was the real thing. Was taking down the engine room and asked which ships side valves to blowoff to scuttle her. Told me he didn't like theship so took great pleasure in pointing them out. The 3 other IRA men had got all hands together and launched the life boat before blowing the charges. They then got back into the pilot cutter they had come out in and told all hands to make for the shore. The engine in lifeboat wouldn't start so they called the IRA back and they towed the boat in.
Arriving ashore on a Saturday night the only place open was the local hop, so they went in there were bought drinks by people who they strongly suspected had recently been wearing masks. The old man got on the phone to the owners who hearing the music in the back ground thought they were all on the piss and threatened to sack them all. Finally getting across to them that the ship was now sitting on the bottom. I rather think the ship was refloated at a later date as there wasn't enough water to submerge her. There must be records somewhere but hearing the story from the horses mouth was rather comical. JWS PS ... Bill Morrison trying to remember if it was one of the Seaforth Chiefs or one of the other offshore company's was with. If was you apologies. My first thought was Andy Main, but don't think so. Don't think I sailed with you as can't remember, if did I would just have been relieving for a short time, Rgds JWS

Re: Policing American style
Hi All.
Talking of police carrying guns. A few years ago the NSW Govt had some ponce do a report on Asylums; and he concluded the best way to treat mental people was to release them into the community where they wander the streets, and why not? The nut cases had already taken over the Govt. Now we have on a regular bases in NSW police shooting dead blokes coming at them with knives or swords, then on TV they report that the man had serious mental issues, I think in the last two years police have shot around fifteen people with mental issues. I can't imagine what this does to a police officer's mental state, in two cases the police were subject too criminal charges and had to defend themselves in court, the charges were later dismissed, it made me sick to see police with many years in the force having to go through all this bullshit all because the Govt wanted to save money, only to throw it away on some tripe.
There are many police on sick leave from the stress of this stupid Govt edict.
Cheers Des
