trying to learn about my grandads past
Hi, first things first I'm trying to find out what ship or ships my granddad was on in WW2 there's hardly any information from my family as my granddad hardly talked about his time on board the ship. I know he was in the merchant navy {that's what his brother put in his eulogy}he also said something about Arctic convoys. From what I remember being said by my aunts and uncles my Granddad was a minesweeper{ not sure what that is to be honest} he was also shot in the leg and recovered in a hospital in Scotland I know its not much to go on and I've got no clue on where to start looking so any help would be great as he raised me from me being born till he passed when I was 11. his name was Henry Hawkins date of birth was 4th of november 1922 and he was from middlesbrough {uk}
