Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
Hi Terry, when IPSA was set up, one of its terms of reference was that MP's could not vote in any salary increase, they have no power of veto over any proposed rises.
Cameron has and has stopped his cabinet minister accepting an increase that they were due, Cameron and the cabinet rise is limited to 4.9% not 10%.
I don't agree that any of them (all Mp's irrespective of party)are worth it, and should do the right and refuse to accept it, but I'll bet you none of them will.
IPSA states that by increasing salaries, whilst reducing allowances etc, the overall wage bill remains the same.
From next year MP's salary rises will be in line with inflation, why not this year?

Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
I'm following this with great interest. I'm surprised though that no one "is amused" at Her Majesty, complete with crown, sitting on a priceless antique chair, living off the privy list, going home to Buck House, I assume in a coach and four, giving a speech about austerity. Sort of contradictory what?
Sleep easy Cappy, Obama, signed the Patriot Act Bill yesterday...What a relief to know he (the U.S.) can monitor your posts and eavesdrop on phone calls again.

Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
Hi Rodney
Buck House, or Buckingham Palace, is owned by us and belongs to the Nation . not to the Queen. They only have an apartment in there, the rest is Offices of State and employs hundreds of people who would be in a food bank asking for hand outs if they were not employed.
Just like your White House.
SO WHY CRITISIZE????

Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
In fact all the earnings from the Crown Estates go to the Treasury and the Queen is given an allowance.

I've been awaiting the incoming....Sort of, you can dish out comments, but can't take them? Criticism is passing judgment, what I was doing was an observation that I thought was contradictory to the essence of the thread.

Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
I wonder what would happen if the queen was slapped with a bedroom tax bill like her subjects after all her house belongs to the nation she is only a tenant after all?? getting back to nurses my daughter in law was a nursing sister in paediatrics a highly skilful position and although moved to home visitor still has to keep up with her collage grades so why not get well paid after all she has to pay for her schooling costs no grants nothing and like all trades if you work hard like the rest of us why not get well paid would any of us turn it down??? jp

Re: Cap Benefit/ Cap Agencies.
Rodney the Queen more than earns her keep by keeping traditions alive where-in tourists in their millions descend on our capital each year to witness spectacles that few other countries (if any) perform. The tourists bring in their dollars, yen, sheckles, euros etc etc which we need and appreciate. Like all institutions they have their hangers on and leeches, as I'm sure your institutions may have also, but we learn to live with it, accept it and it gives us an identity which few other countries can emulate, though many try. When we travel around the world and people ask us about 'The Queen' we know they are not talking about the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway etc etc. People never forget that she and her parents never deserted the country in WW11 like some other monarchies deserted theirs, in fact 'Our Liz' was an ambulance driver during the war, and whilst I hold no torch for Andrew he did serve in the Falklands and outspoken Phillip the ever outspoken seaman served with distinction in WW11, so we learn to live with their perceived imperfections and maybe unnecessary pomp and ceramony that brings in much needed contributions to the countries coffers directly or indirectly. Not getting at you or aiming exocets etc just explaining why we can live with them even though their way of living may seem contrary to the theme of the post. However no matter how enviable their life may seem, they can keep it, as living in a constant goldfish bowl is not my idea of utopia
