After hearing the horror stories regarding waiting times admitting problems ETC..... You can imagine our dread yesterday. After a telephone call to my brother in laws G.P. Yesterday asking her advice, He is my wife's brother a cancer sufferer lives alone and has drank like a fish for months he basically has thrown in the towel stopped attending his specialist appointments, I think the poor guy knows there is no hope for him and decided to go out with a bang !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. His G.P. rang the wife back within 15 minutes, I have had an ambulance dispatched for him she said but as it is not an emergency you could be in for a bit of a wait, In the meantime I am sitting with him as he was moaning and groaning hanging onto his side in agony. 4 Hours later the ambulance turned up they insisted against his wishes he had to go and get checked over after I explained the problems he had. My wife went in the ambulance with him and when his brother got home from work we drove straight to the hospital, I was expecting to find him in the A@E Awaiting to be triaged not the case I was amazed he was in the room they call ambulatory-acute-unit Apparently if you are taken into hospital on the advice or dispatch of an ambulance by your G.P. You go straight into this unit no wait no A@E, They gave him a good examination the 2 doctors ambulance staff and nurses I can't praise enough. He was admitted onto a ward didn't matter which or where it was a bed and given pain relief on a drip within an hour. This post isn't about politics, The lack of funding, The long waiting time for an ambulance, The shortage of Doctors and nursing staff, That is for the government to sort out with our ever growing population who aren't all home bred. Its a thank you to the dedicated doctors nurses and ambulance staff who take on this task every day of their lives and do the best they can given the resources at their disposal. We owe it to our nation even if it means paying more taxes that the N.H.S. Is saved from going under. Thank you one and all Terry.

Terry, I have to agree with you. The same sort of problems happen here in Oz, abuse of the system by some makes it harder for the genuine cases to be dealt with. Thankfully now many of our hospitals have set up non emergency clinics for those who do this sort of thing. Non genuine emergencies have dropped by as much as 60% leaving the dedicated staff, and that is what they are, to deal with those who genuinely need help.

I went into a none emergency case place the other day,I came out with the doctors phone number,he wants me to paint his house inside from top to bottom,God's honest truth.If I was a few years younger I would've taken it on,I'l pass it on to one of the lads in the pub. .He gave me a job but he got his diagnosis wrong and gave me antibiotics that I didn't need.

Maybe you were let off lightly Jim. He sounds like a skin flint so after sanding and scraping the old paint work you could have ended up with lead poisoning. No offence to Terry!

my first day up since Christmas no beds in hospitals but walk in serves very good and helpful definitely a pneumonia virus going around we me call it man flue no its far from that had no food for 3 weeks just started eating again and having a very low immune system smacked me hard I am used to fight every day on third lot of antibiotics and steroids even got one of these inhaler things on the bright side clothes from years ago fit well now lost over 3 stone so its time to over paint the cross on the front door and catch up on what has been going on here so be back soon..jp
