Re: Chief Stewards Info
Even on a Geordie tramp, the Arab firemen used to get steak for breakfast instead of bacon. That used to cause a few grumbles from a few of the sea lawyers. However that was the way of life even then. JS

They were more Geordie than anything else. Used to be a little Geordie AB from South Shields who used to get a lot of stick. Today would be brought up by the do gooders for not treating him with religious respect, he couldn't care less and still came back for more. Probably one of your classmates Cappy. He was one of the crowd when Seppie was Bosun. JS

Den, my best mate was in an hotel when he applied to go to sea and was taken straight away by P&O without going to sea school.
When he came ashore he continued in hospitality but had by then developed a liking for messing about with cars.
Monday morning hands still black from grease he would offer to make the fruit salad as he claimed the acid in the fruit whitened his hands.
Yes John.
Same as me with UCL.

The Pinemore would serve up on occasion salmon steaks with warm mayonnaise sauce . Have to say that most ships meals were made up of foods that I had never had at home. Ragout of beef, and Danish Blue cheese & compot of fruit ....never heard of such luxury`s . Brian W.
Remember when I was on the Pinemore. My mate from the Sarah Bowater [galley boy then] was the cook.
Made the best curry outside of the Goaness on P&O.

It would appear that UCL were fussy as to who they selected as crew, we must have been in the good ones at that time
