Photo of Athelregent
Hi
I am looking for a photo and information of the Athelregent ship. My grandfather was on that ship in the merchant navy at only 16.
Would love to get a photo please.
Thanks.

Re: Photo of Athelregent
ATHELREGENT was a 8,881 gross ton tanker, 493ft x 69.2ft, speed 11 knots,
built 1930 by Furness Shipbuilding, Middlesbrough for the United Molasses
Co. (Athel Line), London. 1956 scrapped.
The company sailed mostly to US Gulf ports and the Caribbean with some
voyages to the Dutch East Indies. She appears to have led a fairly
uneventful life!
Athel Line ships during WW2 were often used as Fleet Oilers, and as such
their personnel pioneered the techniques of oil fueling at sea by the
British. These techniques continue to be used by oilers from the Royal
Fleet Auxilliary. Thus, even if ATHEL REGENT did not attract the attention
of the Axis, she could well have played an important role in convoy defence.

Re: Photo of Athelregent
Might anyone have been on or know where I might view the logbook entries on May 3rd for this ship? Interested in the assistance it gave to the sailors of the torpedoed SAMA that day. Thank you

Re: Photo of Athelregent
You would need to get hold of the narratve section of the Athelregent's Log Book for 1942 held at Kew under the ships Official No. 161142 held in file BT 381/2033.
