Re: SS Faraway 111
Des, Vernon,
'FARADAY II' never sailed in any Arctic convoy she was sunk in 1941 before the first convoy 'Dervish' even sailed. I think you may need to go back to your source for a bit more information

Hugh

Re: SS Faraway 111
Wondering if the name was correct so in searching found , it is too late to be the one you want though
Empire Faraway
Empire Faraway was an Empire F type coaster which was built by Henry Scarr Ltd, Hessle. Laid down as CHANT 21 and renamed Fabric 21 before launch. Launched in October 1944 as Empire Faraway and completed in November 1944. Sold in 1946 to Seaway Coasters Ltd and renamed Seabrook. Operated under the management of Howard & Sons, London. Sold in 1954 to F T Everard & Sons Ltd and renamed Fortunity. Scrapped in February 1962 in Nieuw-Lekkerkerk, Netherlands.

Re: SS Faraway 111
Empire Faraway was less than 500grt and never sailed in any Russian convoys either.

Re: SS Faraway 111
It is also as i pointed out the wrong dates , I used the illustration of Empire Faraway to suggest that the Faraway name may have another name associated with it , as the Faraday idea did not fit either

Re: SS Faraway 111
Hi Rob, DeepSea, and Hugh.
Thanks for your replies I have sent the details that Vernon gave, but by snail mail as my mate in London is not that familiar lifting attachments off the net, I'll wait and see if that is the one he was after, it could be that the Arctic convoy thing was from misinformation or old age. He did say it paid off or signed on in 1941 so that leaves out the coaster if it was built in 1944.
Thanks for the replies
Cheers Des
