port chalmers/ pedestal fame.
Hello from Auckland. I have recently been in touch with a fine old man who was on the Port Chalmers in the pedestal convoy to Malta. I wonder if he is entitled to any medal for this and if so how and where can I get it for him. He didn't want anything at the time but now he does. Time's passing. Anyone know anything please respond or tell me where to ask. Regards Ronnie

Re: port chalmers/ pedestal fame.
Hello Ronnie,
No medal specifically for Operation Pedestal but he would be entitled to his wartime campaign medals which would cover his participation in Pedestal and other theatres of operations. We need a name, date and place of birth and can then advise you further.
Regards
Hugh

Hello Hugh,a few weeks ago you told me of your friend going to Kew and you would ask him to have a look for my brothers CR10 (I think thats what it is called) did he have any luck.??By the way if he did'nt you advised on getting the ships names and work backwards on movement cards.I know part name of a tanker and company name of the ship he docked in Swansea on,on VE day or the day before VE Day can details of that be found?
Regards.

Re: port chalmers/ pedestal fame.
Hello Jim,
Last I heard was that Roger was going to take a look towards end of October. Not sure if he managed or not as he was going out of the country shortly after. Not heard from him yet but will ask him.
Working back via crew agreements is not an easy task as you will have to look at the last ship he was on in 1945. The crew agreement should mention his previous ship. You would then need to look up that ship's crew agreement and so on until you got to the first ship. So you would need the researcher to go digging for you.
What was the name of his ship on VE Day ?
Regards
Hugh

Re: port chalmers/ pedestal fame.
Hello Hugh,my brother tells me that I gave him the information some time ago on the ship he was on on VE Day,that being the case somebody on this site must have got it for me.It was an Anglo American tanker he said I told him it had Crystal in her name,he joined her at Immingham for Houston and back to Swansea VE Day or the day before or after. He said I told him it was 3 week trip from Houston to Swansea,as I say the only place I would've got the information from is maybe yourself or someone else on here.
Regards.
