Royal navy records
I was watching QUESTION TIME on BBC TV last night,
They were talking about Ralph Milliband, the father of Ed Milliband.
A Lib Dem woman said He fought in the war for three years in the Royal Navy.
I was just wondering where he fought , which sea battles and what ships he sailed on.
Quentin Letts, the Daily Mail reporter said otherwise and that he hated Britain.
So I was wondering who was telling the truth.
Anyone got any ideas??
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Royal navy records
Hi Brian, according to Wikipedia Ralph Milliband served for 3 years in the Belgium Section of the Royal Navy,
achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer, he served on several warships tasked with intercepting German Radio Communications.

Good man, but from what I hear his son is trying to 'do' the country.

Amazing that the Daily Mail earns its living by dishing dirt and throwing s*** at everyone elses doorstep, but when the s*** comes back to them they demand an apology. I have no time for Ed Milliband, but why bring his father into disrepute, it seems undeserved, regards KT

Re: Royal navy records
Ed Millibands father was a socialist but I very much doubt he hated Britain
The Daily Mail has once again shot itself in its foot as its owners, the Rothermere family have a very chequered past. One of them even extolled Britains youth to follow the example of a certain moustachioed German and "cleanse" the country of certain individuals and groups. Last nights episode of How I got News For You really ripped into the Mail with, as usual, Hislop leading the way with his very forthright and knowledgeable views on the papers owners.

Re: Royal navy records
The late Professor Ralph Miliband , was a Marxist , He did oppose the Falklands war , and the Daily Mail's argument is that it is giving a background to Ed Miliband's breakfast table as a child , may , May just be a valid one . When you read the History of Adolfe ( Ralph ) Miliband , he was one of the few prominent Marxists that disagreed with Stalin's rule in Russia , and accepted the dismantling of the soviet Union . He , I feel had sound working class principles embedded in his Marxist ideals . to the point where he is on record as saying the Labour Party had lost it's way . He was anti establishment , seems a shame that both his sons were Oxford Graduates , that pillar of the established Academia must have caused him a huge disappointment ,

My view of it all is to expect a dirty tricks Euro and general election campaigns. We all know the Mail is a Tory supporting paper.

Re: Royal navy records
I dont buy Newspapers. not for many years. they only print something sensational to Sell the paper.
The Daily Mail has had tons of free advertising since this claim.
Bad news is good news for papers.
Dead men cannot answer, I learned that at a Court of Inquiry when the Pool Fisher sank.
You cannot slander a dead man in UK Law.
from what bits I have heard is Milliband Sen. wanted to change the system in Britain, make it a Republic and change the Parliamentary system.
This was the reason he was accused of hating Britain.
I have few overseas neighbours like that.
cheers
Brian.
