Re: Discharge Book numbering from WW 2 to 1972 for British seamen
Presumably so as I got my “new” discharge book in 1973

Don’t know when the “pree R” discharge books finished but in 1972 I sailed with a Chief Steward who was still using his original “book”from when he first went to sea about 40 years previously
He was a man who favoured long voyages!

Re: Discharge Book numbering from WW 2 to 1972 for British seamen
Ah!! Yes now i recall after looking at it again cappy its justan indication of a letter that has the actual meaning of "Merchant Navy Discharge A. book numbers or more formally the ‘Continuous Certificate of Discharge’"
Cheers
Asst Stwd Frank Heller 1894 London
Frank was the first Dis.A ‘R’ number (R1) that we know of.
Did you know (Generally Speaking) that they now have DB (Discharge Book) makes sense though as the Prefix on Discharge Books ! Good Job they never put DBS LOL

#168 I perfectly agree Vernon this is a seaman’s site that takes visitors ok who declare they are not seamen. Those who declare that they are but are loath to show their discharge book numbers on various excuses ,I am loath to reply to.in this day and age viz Identity theft . Why make it too easy for them.? jS
