Re: Discharge Book numbering from WW 2 to 1972 for British seamen
Hello David
Roger Stratton in New Zealand, I was with Shaw Savill as a Junior Engineer from 25 Nov 1969 to 16 Mar 1972, I signed on and off in NZ but all voyages were out of the UK. My Discharge Book number was R 892837. Good luck with your project. Kind rgds.

Re: Discharge Book numbering from WW 2 to 1972 for British seamen
2nd. Book issued in 1973 this book unlike the previous had no place for report on Conduct and Ability.
3rd Book issued in 1985 ditto as 2nd. Book.
Same number with the 3 books.
Red I.D. Card issued 1978. To replace old green card.
However the red I.D card had a validity of 5 years for some reason . Was never revalidated so assume I used a passport in place of.

Re: Discharge book number
#57. As regards this post have made a few enquiries and apparently he has a very interesting past. He has written a book and is going to be loaned to me when integration resumes. So anything of interest and him agreeing and willing will put on here. Whilst making enquiries word came n that another old timer had died , and the first thought was it him, but not so. A lot of people die with a lot of information that should be put there for others to see. The problem now is the recent dead one is that his family will not be able to bury him in the usual formal manner jS

Re: dis A R 419585
Hi Brendan
I'm not sure if this helps but my Dad (Vivan Squibbs') Discharge No. was R.148708. His last ship was the M.S. Totland (O.N. 186894) and he retired on the 16th July 1969 after 42 years in the M N. He did this then to make sure he was ashore to give me away at my wedding. He first started as a cabin boy on the S.S. Ovington Court on the 4th July 1927. It was quite a new ship as built in 1924. Dad sailed out of Barry and returned to South Shields.
