One of the passenger ships to appear in our new book Great Mediterranean Passenger Liners is Matson's Monterey of 1932, which later (in 1957) became the Matsonia and then (in 1963) the Lurline (shown here at Honolulu). But then, she had a second life -- becoming the Greek-owned Britanis. In all, the Bethlehem Steel-built ship endured for almost 70 years before sinking off South Africa while en route to the scrappers in India.
