THE MORNING OF JULY 25th 1956

2 Comments by Doc Vernon Published on 26th July 2016 09:01 PM

On the morning of July 25th 1956, the Ile de France & Stockholm departed from nearby Manhattan piers on regular crossings to Europe. On the same day, the Andrea Doria was nearing New England, still a day away from her posted arrival at New York on the 26th. The three great liners went about business as usual.

But then, in a change of events and high drama, they would all meet later that evening, off Nantucket Island. One would sink, one would be dubbed "the villain" and one would be called heroic.

    Hi Vernon.
I believe that the third officer on the Stockholm I think his name was Jorgeson was cleared, he acted according to the rules of the sea, and was baffled by the actions of the Andria Doria.Sad Day.But a good trilogy of pictures.
    Cheers Des
