#6... well done Den and we reiterate Cappys sentiments. Probably the joke about the MN being involved may have been closer to the truth for some. The notion they were the primary targets would not have got through to many, it’s called not seeing the wood for the trees. Regardless of the good of some intentions they lose sight of what they represent. Is a good job you are there to keep them straight. Cheers JWS.

WWII veteran Bernard (Barney) Holehan​ will be among the returned service people attending the Anzac Day service at Maunu Cemetery
.
At aged 93 the former Royal Navy seaman and Whangarei resident has attended many Anzac ceremonies over the years.

Born in Leeds in 1925, Barney emigrated to New Zealand in 1948, arriving at the Poirua Public Works Camp in January 1949 to start a new life.

He was 18 when he joined the Royal Navy in 1943, signing on as a gunner on a merchant ship, which plied its way to and from the ports along Britain's east coast.

The old box brownie took great pictures, most of the pics I took while at sea was with one of those. My wife still has hers as good as new.

We have the last post and the poem read out at our local RSL club every night. But the only red duster that will fly is my own small one that the wife of one of my Vindi mates made. I'm probably the only ex seaman living here.

#14. Ditto Des mine has hers from when she got when 21. As good as new. Also has the electric record player I bought her which was all the rage then in 1960. Never mind the radars get Tommy Steele on, or Johnny Ray if nothing better. Cheers JS....

I probably spent more time going through the Suez than any other part of the world. seeing that picture brought home my memories.
