An earlier tribute by Doc in
    my own archives, thought
    it should be appropriate
    again to add here.

For those who never met Lou , you would have no problems of picking him out of. a Line up . When I met him for the first time I picked him up shortly after he entered the bar. It was probably many years since he was at sea , but still walked like one, best described as a miniature Western Ocean Roll. He also made straight for me and there was quite a few in the bar, must have noticed the rum and coke on the bar top.The attachments you have on your post Keith don’t open for me. Cheers JS

    Harvey
A Gentler man one would not meet, and a Heart of Gold as well.
For an ex Seaman manners of an Angel he had, and Total respect for everyone .
He was a once in lifetime Person who went through hell and still managed to keep a smile on his Face! I could not have asked to meet up with a better Bloke , who became ny good Friend in a short time. Both myself and my Wife wee absolutely devastated at the News of his passing!
Lou you were a great Guy!
    Never forgotten mate!
Sail gently in the Breeze .

Beautiful words. It is a pity that worthy people leave.

Met Lou in 2013 together with a lot of the lads on here, he was a cheerful character held no grudges even though a Japanese POW for nearly four years and was only 19 years old when released from captivity. Brian (Kong) and our wives spent a lot of time with him as we stayed at the same hotel. He presented me with a book of Dunedin which brought back my time there in 50's.

Considering he was, if I remember rightly 90 years old when he flew in from NZ and showed boundless energy in the days we spent together. His experiences (along with other seafarers) can be found in a book called 'Hell or High Water' isbn 978-1-86950-786-2 available on Amazon

Rest in peace Lou and fair winds

It has been good but a little sad to read all these tributes to Lou again.

Happy memories of a real Man.
