Re: Corp0ral Punishment
John you are spot on there, the first duty of any government is protection of the people by defence of the borders, taxes to be raised to pay for the army that does this. But over time govs have taken on non gov roles, mainly to gain votes. then when they have the public totaly dependent on them they go to war on the pretence on many occasions thay are doing it for the nation. But in many cases it is the meglomaniac in them that drives them to this. They become power hungry with the attitude, 'we are better than you', one only has to look at the USA and see the conflicts they have gone into and for what? Any army will commit the most awful attrocities if brainwashed enough to do so. The army training of most nations are based on m onkey see monkey do and heaven help you if you dop not follow orders.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Corp0ral Punishment
Hi Lou.
I feel for what you and all those prisoners went through, my neighbor was a Jap prisoner, he didn't last long once he got home. And now that twat Obama is calling on the Japs to change their constitution to get rid of the pacifist part of it so that Japan can send troops again overseas, mainly to keep China at bay a country who lost millions from the Japanese aggression and who were fighting alongside us in the last war. During his visit the top Japs even visited the tomb where all the top Jap war criminals are remembered and revered.
Now our own PM is doing the same despite all the marches of rememberance to all those poor soldiers who died on the Burma railway.
Cheers Des

Re: Corp0ral Punishment
I noticed on the TV news that one of the congressman that one who fought as a fighter pilot in Vietnam and also stood for President at one time, is calling for the US to arm the belligerents in Syria. He must be one of the ones they call the Hawks, and not the Doves. It is such talk and actions by such that causes continuation of such conflicts. What is wrong with these people when they see their side that they have backed not succeeded in their aims they imediately want to go in and alter the playing conditions. I also thought re the recent news break that no dealing would be done with the Taliban, the recent release of the ex US soldier after 5 years must be good for him, the same as the 5 Taliban who have been effectively returned to the Taliban for further service. Armed incurssions were made to get and successfully kill their leader, why couldnt other armed incurssions have been made to free their man. It is already been made out that no talks went on with the Taliban, beleive that and pigs might fly. JS

Not too sure who started off this post with the above heading (heading)? Sounds (and resembles) some sort of discipline meted out by certain ucl catering crew members.
