A Very Brave Women
There have been many brave acts during the war at sea but they have also some very brave acts never reached the headlines .So i thought i would just give this brave act a mention .
As the ship was sinking the stewardess a Mrs .Edith Thomas was leading two elderly women passengers on to the boat deck she realised that the two elderly ladies had no hope of getting into one of the two lifeboats that got tried to get away from the ship (the one did over turn when it hit the sea ) .
So she said to them lets go back to the cabin and pray to god .She could have easy left the ladies and tried to get away by herself . This was related by one of the survivors

Hi Lou,
When you posted earlier about the Indian guards that you had, i had wondered why Indians?, but there has been a very good programme on TV here on the fall of Singapore, and it was then they said about the Indian troop mutiny, and the Japs took them over to their side. A very good programme, looking forward to the second part this week, regards to you down there, a lovely part of the world KT

Stewardess Editha Thomas - Lest We Forget
There was one stewardess on GLOUCESTER CASTLE named Editha Thomas born in London on 4th April 1886. She joined the service in February 1916 and sailed on the DUNLUCE CASTLE.
Prior to the outbreak of WWII, she had sailed in 13 of the company's ships some more than once.
During WWII some of her ships included:
WINDSOR CASTLE
CAPETOWN CASTLE
WARWICK CASTLE
ARUNDEL CASTLE
GLOUCESTER CASTLE
A very brave woman indeed.
Regards
Hugh
