Sadly Donald MacDonald died in the British General Hospital in Singapore from Beri Beri, most likely brought on by the starvation endured during captivity.

Gloucester Castle PoW
Hello Charles,
Been doing some housekeeping on my files and note from your first post #1 the name Lofty Cooper. I don't know if this is the same man but as he was aboard your ship and a PoW you may recall him.
The last three columns show the date of arrival in Manila, the date of repatriation and the repatriating ship's name. In this case the ss JOSEPH DYCKMAN.
Regards
Hugh

If I win the Lottery Lou I will sail you back to Liverpool, with Peggy of course.
All the best to the family,
I visited the Kranji war cemetery while I was in Singapore, a very quiet but beautiful place now. May they all rest in peace there. I saw a sad one, wernt they all?, it was a grave of an 18 year old Red Cross girl from England, Killed by the Japanese.
Cheers
Brian
