What happend to this massive collection? Why did the owner take the site down?

The owner of the site stated that he was getting to much flack over copyright of some of the photos on the site and was continuously threatened with litigation. I read on one other Merchant Navy site that it was possible to download the complete collection and (I think) that a few people for private use had done that.

A while back if you had contacted the Owner (As he did have a notice up) you could have got a CD with the entire collection.
A few here as i recall did get theirs ,and i too got a Copy thanks to a very kind Gentleman. (Wont mention who as he will know who he was) Thank again!@
