[Terry Linsell]

Hi
My Name is Terry Linsell (Australia).
Thanks for letting me join you.
Although I've never been to sea I come from a sea faring family from Aldeburgh in Suffolk, England.
Some were fisherman and others were in the Merchant Navy.
My uncle, William Charles Linsell b.1900, was on the Vaunter, a mine finder during WW2 and after the war was a chef on many ships international and coastal in Australia.
I recall him mentioning Murmansk but have no idea if he was on the convoys.
He passed on to me a metal communication box from a German U boat - I have no idea (again!) where that came from.
My dad Rodney Linsell (b 1904) was likewise a chef on international ships for many years and settled in Australia. During WW2 I believe he was somehow seconded to USA control and did some work in PNG.

I'm wondering if the name Linsell is familiar to anyone on this site?

There used to be a contributor to this site from PNG , he was or had something to do with the war graves commission in the same. Country. He may have been able to shed a little light on to the US part. His work could maybe have had something to do with the coast watch that was set up on those areas, who knows. If you don’t ask no one will volunteer the info. If he sees this post and still with us he may reply and may be able to give you an insight. Into that neck of the woods. As Ron says welcome to the Site and who knows. I know Someone out here who was bell boy in 1948 on the. Queen Mary and went on to become Chief Steward with ANL as was here for many years. But if you have no names of friends of your father would be hard to match up. Names don’t mean too much unless they are very unusual and stick in the memory for some reason. Seamen must have the biggest range of acquaintances world wide. A list of his ships might jog someone’s memory faster than a personal name. Anyhow best of luck in your Quest. Regards JWS

Yes that’s right Braid Anderson or something similar. Seems to have gone AWOL. My memories getting worse hope it’s not payback time for all this donkey doing. JS
