George Edward Walton
Good morning all,
This seems a very nice site, with a really nice welcome message from the administrator, I feel guilty about asking for help so soon.
I am trying to find information of any kind on a distant relative. George Edward Walton was born in 1910 and hailed from Southampton - the only information I have is that he was a purser for Shaw Saville and he also worked on the Royal Mail Ships and he almost certainly served on the Atlantic Convoys of WW2. He married Marjorie Ruth Evans in 1940 as he feared he would not survive the war.
I am more used to researching the British army and know practically little about the Merchant Navy, though as a boy in Barrow-in-Furness I was sorely tempted to run away to sea and I loved the sailor illustrated on the old cigarette packets - the army won in the end but I still wonder what paths my life would have taken had I succumbed.

Re: George Edward Walton
Good afternoon Marian,
Thank you for your reply.
I realise that I will have to visit the National Archives in order to obtain his records, and indeed those of his brother. Hopefully they will be there.
The information you supplied is a nice taster for what is, hopefully, to come.
Thank you again - not sure how to give thanks more formally - is there a "Thank You" button?
William

Re: George Edward Walton
Hello William
A hearty welcome to the site, and I hope you will enjoy what we have to offer here!
It is never too soon to ask for help here, and as seen already you have a start with info from our Maid Marian, and am sure more is to follow!
Here is a Link for his Seamans Record Pouch states Born 1909,but that is a very common thing with some records, and could well have been given by the person for various reasons!
So hope fully when you go to the N Archives this will help you, saves some time!
You will also need his CRS10 which will contain a lot more info, and is a much better bet!
Cheers and thanks for joining!

I think this is the correct Link for his CRS10
