Thanks for letting me in. A little help required.
Hi, I hope this doesn't seem impertinent but I was wondering if anyone could help me interpret my fathers Seamen's pouch. Dad was a merchant seaman from 1946 - 1953. On his CR1 card under 'name of ship' it says, ex NFTS. Would anyone know what this means? I'd also like to know which forms I need to apply for to get a list of ships my father served on. I realise this is probably through the national archives but their site confuses the hell out of me. I presumed ships would be in the pouch but I guess not. Thankyou in advance and apologies if I have gatecrashed your site.

Re: Thanks for letting me in. A little help required.
Hello Jon
Welcome to the site and don't worry that is what we are here for to try and assist where we can!
As for applying for his Ships that he sailed on,you will have to apply to the NA (BETTER IN PERSON IF POSSIBLE) for his Seamans CRS10 Papers these will have what you want!
As for the meaning of that NFTS I am sure someone will soon post the answer for you!
Cheers
I had posted this elsewhere as well so for your info again this is what the CRS10 would contain

What is his Discharge Number ie R Number!??
See this link as well for other help posted by Billy!

The only thing that I know of that the letters mean, but don't think this is it!

Re: Thanks for letting me in. A little help required.
Thanks so much for your help thus far.
Knowing I'm after a CRS10 will make life a lot easier.
As for....
"NFTS - Night Fighter Training Squadron" A tad unlikely, my dad was 8th army throughout WWII and I'm presuming this is RAF.
Thanks again for your responses and if I fathom out this acronym before anyone else I'll let you know.

Re: Thanks for letting me in. A little help required.
Hello and welcome Jon,
Is the acronym written clearly? Any chance you could post a segment of the card showing the acronym? I can tell you that it is nothing to do with Army or RAF.
Often what you think is written on the card is not the reality and it can save a lot of wasted time if we can view same.
Regards
Hugh
