    Wink Hello from sparkie

Hi there. Just a few lines to introduce myself.
Joined my first ship as a Marconi R.O. in the summer of 1972 which was the Dunadd which I joined in Glasgow. As Glasgow was her home port, there were very few on board and I was befriended by the assistant steward with whom I went up the road into Glasgow that evening. The next morning I was given a fairly stern bo@@ocking by the Old Man for going ashore with "the crowd" Such was my induction to the Merchant Navy!
My next ship, and my main reason for my interest in this forum, was the Cree, a strange little product carrier which carried bitumen from Singapore to Hong Kong and fuel oil to various points around the Malaysian coast. I joined the Cree around Christmas 1972 in Hong Kong and left around June from Port Dixon. It's my 60th birthday at the end of April 2013 and I plan to celebrate it in the Hong Kong Bar in Penang. It's still there having been rebuilt some eight years or so ago after a fire. The same family run it as back in '73. Annie now lives in Montana but her sister Jenny and brother Peter keep things going and made my wife and I most welcome when we visited in September.
I've made contact with 2nd Mate Tudor Palmer and think I,ve tracked down "chug" the Chief Engineer. Would love to hear from anyone else!

Would this have been the Cree that you were on?

I joined the Dunadd (Denholms) in Birkenhead Feb,1957. I did a few trips on Her, UK to the various Iron Ore ports. I had just done a few years with Blue Funnel, and to join a ship with no Derricks or Jumbo's made for an easy time on deck. Good Ship and a Great crowd.

    Sounds like a holiday Peter!

I heard the 'Pool Inn' is no longer standing.
Supported/carried several men out of that place when I was Mate in Ore Carriers.
