Hello to all
Let me start by saying hello to all on board and also what a great website this is.
I am here looking for some help in tracing my late Grandfathers (Frederick Leggett) service as a DEMS Gunner during WWII.
I have some information on him as I have his service record form (S-459) which gives me his basic details and Official number (JX339421).
Unfortunately the record of the ships that he served on seems to be incomplete. I know that between April - November 1942 he completed his training at HMS Glendower, HMS Wellesley and HMS President III, then the record stops until his discharge from service in 1946.
I also have his medals, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Burma Star, Italy Star and the War Medal so these all point to the fact that he must have served on a ship at some time.
If there is anyone out there that can help me with this or at least point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.
Thank you in advance. Andy

Welcome Andy,
His S-459 will, I am sure, only mention the accountancy bases such as HMS PRESIDENT III etc. RN DEMS gunners are difficult to research but...
Send an email to the following address: navysearchpgrc@tnt.co.uk give his full name, date and place of birth and official number. Mention that he was a RN, DEMS gunner aboard MN ships and ask if they can supply any records of his sea time serving with MN ships.
Regards
Hugh
