E scooters

No doubt ,in the UK, you will have seen banks of these scooters that are for hire in most towns and cities, but what has come to light is that those are the only ones that can be used on our roads ( and not the pavement). The sellers of these scooters did not make it known to the buyers that they could not be used on anything or anywhere except private land, consequently, the police are seizing them , and destroying them. I saw in a report also that the main age group hiring these scooters are the 40-50s. kt

Apparently not illegal to sell but illegal to use in public spaces.

Some kids near where I live have them and they wizz along at speed, nearly been run over by one a couple of times, bloody dangerous things, should be banned. Nothing wrong with the scooters of our youth, great exercise pushing them along.

Go to NZ, they are legal and lethal there.
On the sidewalk at speeds you would not imagine.
Could be used to reduce the aged population if they continue this way.

Becomimg more prominent in NZ are 3 & 4 wheel mobility electric scooters of which I have one of the latter. Goes like the clappers along footpaths/pavements though naturally there is caution about idiot motorists, or unaware kids, appearing from driveways. I'm readying for giving up my drivers licence and ditching the car. Scooter is supposed to do 28 kms on a full charge though I'm not game to test this. At least I will have transport to local shops, the Dr etc. In my instance, the power for batteries charge is costless, plus no insurance, registration, petrol or fitness warrant. You see John in Oz, the aged population, or some of us, are joining the legal and lethal. (Check out my scooter on www. "merits indigo mobility scooter" - I think)

Ken, you sound a bit like a hot wheels man.
At 25 kph you go at twice the legal speed here.
But they are very popular and here we do have a few two seater ones, though to see one coming towards you is a bit off putting.
Nothing wrong with them and without them many a person could well be house bound.
Freedom they give to all who use them.

There has been a huge increase in the number of electric bicycles on the streets here. My wife and I bought a couple last year and having a ton of fun using them. The usual care has to be taken as you’d expect with any bike on the road but what a relief for an old pair of legs like mine. They do provide for some exercise if and when you chose but can also give you a boost of continuous speed when desired. They are well built, fat tires and good suspension. I frequently use mine for trips to the store and my wife takes our young granddaughter out on hers and cycles around the local parks.

Here in Melbourne there are plenty of mad people who want to ride a bike.
Must wear a helmet.
We have bike lanes in which cars are allowed to park, very clever that bit, and the law is that a car doing 60klm must give the ride a one meter margin, at over 60 it goes to one and a half.

Then we have the Trams with tram lines, very good for slowing the bikes down.

See a cyclist stuck between a car and a tram with no where to go.

But it makes for good news on TV.
