Guy Martin and D Day
Anyone watch Guy Martin's D Day parachute drop on Chanel 4 last night. He is a ex motorcycle professional rider and a speed freak. He has already rebuilt his own spitfire and has wanted to be part of the 75th D Day landings celebration by taking part in the parachute drop. He was in the process of assisting in the restoration of a DC3 from which he hoped to take part in the celebrations with. He undertook training with the army on their para's course in order to be able to take part in the drop. There was a number of interesting interviews with para's etc who were there on the day.
There were some interesting reveals such as the Horsa clickers were actually reattached to their towing plane after they had landed and discharged their equipment . This was done by someone holding the tow rope up in the air whilst the towing plane, with a hook hanging below it flew low over the glider on the ground with the hook catching to tow rope and towing the glider back to the U.K.
Very interesting 2 hour program.
