    Default Shipbreaking

A few months ago I posted that Dale's the operator of the Garvel Drydock in Greenock had applied for licensing to dismantle ships. The local authority have granted them a licence, which in a way is good news, if they aresuccssful it means more jobs.

That's great news but I wonder how long it will be before the end via a mental Greeny treehugger friendly people get out there and start objecting on grounds of asbestos scrap metal burning paint and 1001 other reasons meanwhile let's hope that they don't

Rob, surprised they got the licence as the nearest house are approximately 500 feet away.

Just look back at the cr-p Able UK had to endure when trying to recycle (dismantle) those American auxiliary vessels. They are a significant distance out of town, relatively isolated and well geared up and experienced in that line of work.
They had to endure all kinds of protest, if the original publicity had been more low key they might not have had the same reaction, but it was headline news "ooh look at at all this work we are bringing to an unemployment blackspot"
Hope they learn for the future.

Of course they could always go the 'Indian' way and run it up on the nearest beach then the locals would have something to whinge about LOL
