How many know.
As there is very little said as regards Russia and Japan who also were opposed during the Second World War to each other, how many have learned from history books ..... ???
There were some major skirmishes between the USSR and Japan in Manchuria in Japanese occupied in 1939 which left between 20,000 and 30,000 dead on each side. This fighting ended with a Japanese / Soviet neutrality pact in 1941 which left the USSR free to concentrate on resisting Nazi Germany. In 1943, at the Tehran Conference, Stalin promised to join the war against Japan after the defeat of Germany and an invasion of Cambodia and Japanese occupied Mongolia was launched early in August 1945 involving 1.6 million Red Army soldiers. Some argue that this Soviet offensive, which killed about 250,000 Japanese civilians, was as much responsible for Japans surrender as the atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Russia and Japan have still. Not officially declared peace since the end of hostilities.

Re: How many know.
Russia kept its crack troops along the borders with Mongolia and Cambodia up until 1941, fearing a Japanese attack.
With Russia crumbling under the German onslaught the crack troops were brought to Western Russia and the tide began to turn against Germany.
