What bridge
Saw on the news yesterday the opening of the bridge between Honk Kong and mainland China.
55 klms in length and built in just nine years.
Reduces the crossing time from 3 hours by ferry to 30 minutes by car.
Some bridge built by a nation that sets a task and sees it through.
When I consider our state gov is taking ten years to build 9 klms of underground railway I shudder.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: What bridge
Bit of information on the bridge. The islands supporting the towers are designed to look like dolphins

Know the feeling John. Before moving to Europe and still living in Melbourne we holidayed in France, Switzerland, Austria etc and were amazed at the number of road tunnels constructed because they needed them. Switzerland in particular just went straight through whatever mountain was in the way of progress.
Yet in Victoria they couldn't;t even tunnel under the Melbourne cemetery to connect the Tullamarine to the Eastern. Incompetent - all of them

Re: What bridge
Hi Trevor.
Try Sydney taking so long to build a light rail that most business on the route have gone broke, now suing the Govt, while the govt is suing the Spanish builder. Fast train from Melbourne to Brisbane expected in 9054.

Re: What bridge
Only 10,000 permits are available for Hong Kong residents who want to drive to Zhuhai, which is located in the province of Guangdong. The permits are valid for five years.
Only people or organisations that have made "certain financial or political contributions on the mainland" will be awarded permits, the South China Morning Post newspaper reports.

Re: What bridge
Spot on Des all these promises about Roads and extra Structures and Transport has been going on for Yonks and still no nearer the solution are we!
The Trains here are way behind the times, and they are bragging about the New Carriages that wont even change from the way you want to sit like the old ones! Big deal that some will have a little Table in front of you ,what use is that I ask?? On longer trips like to the Blue Mountains and beyond not even a bite to eat or Drink, boy are they lacking!
As you say when looking at other Infrastructure around the World Aussie has a hell of a way to go.
Cheers

Re: What bridge
Not sure about UK but here in Oz we take so long to get anything done lately.
By the time the committee looking into the feasability of the project most of us have forgotten what it is all
