THEY TOOK IT ALL, AND ALL ITS ASSETS and buildings, .They are even trying to take over Springbok in Surrey. many railworkers are moving in.
That place was a gift to British Merchant Seamen by the South African Gov, in appreciation of what they did in WW2.
NOW THEY WANT IT FOR THEMSELVES.
So no sympathy for train drivers or guards.

I see that the Airport workers are coming out on Strike next week, The cabin Staff of British Airways are also coming out on Strke next week,
The only people they Hurt are the Public, the Travellers, who are Innocent. what is wrong with those Idiots?
Why Punish Innocent people for what their Unions are failing to do. Negotiate, not STRIKE.
That is why they will Never get any sympathy or backing from the Public.
If I was flying to Miami to join my next cruise, next week , I would miss my ship and that would have cost me thousands,. So they can all get stuffed.

My friends Daughter is a Union Delegate for a MAJOR British Airline, she goes to Brussels once a month for five days, 1st Class travel, 1st class hotel there, an Office, and for that FIVE DAYS she gets £2,000. So being a Union Delegate is quite a lucrative business.

The last thing that I remember of the Unions before leaving the UK, and I speak only for Numast which it would have been against all their objectives to go on strike, was that ship by ship a team would be formed to negotiate with the shipowner re a standing salary with the shipowner on an annual basis. Whether this ever came to anything have no idea. However as the Federation was no longer there to put up wage scales for all crews there must be another system in place now. However as not that many ships left, maybe it is up to the shipowner to decide, and as far as I can see the NUS is conspicuous by its absence. Just maybe people are being driven back into Union folds, as other means of discussion have failed. Most governments will support big business especially when its mostly them who support political fund raising, the one thing I think the American people see more than us, when so much public money is spent on their wish to become President of the US. Probably another reason why Trump got in as was supposedly using his own money. Anything that can be seen as a willingness to put people out of work is going to be a no no in the minds of a lot of people, especially once again when the population has gone up by millions with the incompetence of past governments to protect its borders. You could say the system in Australia was similar to what was envisioned by Numast but in this case the Seamans Unions took over the position of the British Shipping Federation, and have also gone onto the likes of the old GP system. A new starter going to sea in an Australian managed vessel when I retired was on 50 percent of an AB, he went on the full rate after a specified period. There was none of this crap about DHUs being on 5 bob less than an AB. Straight forward stuff not embellished with a lot of phoney misunderstanding of what going to sea was all about. All these countries who say they are Democratic I take with a pinch of salt, a few like the Commonwealth run on the old Westminster type of governance the others don't and all have different rules to suit. We have no right to interfere with the ways other people see their own way to living their lives, it is their perogative whatever it might be, there would be less problems today, if we butted out. We are not our Brothers keeper whatever one might think. Today in the Middle East is no different than what it was in Herods time when he went out and killed all children under 2 years of age, as feared future competition. That was approximately 2017 years ago. I see no bar to refusing permission to people to enter a country who hold dissimilar views to the occupants of that country, Japan has done it and is also a Democratic country, I am not too perturbed whose feathers this may ruffle, it is up to the duly elected government to put the safety and good health of its own citizens before even thinking of trying to emulate the good Samaritan. John #56 you are correct in your summing up of the middle east and nothing we in the west do will change it.

As to the unions and strikes, had forgoten about the rubbish in London prior to Maggie, it solves very little. But it does give the union leaders and shop stewards a better chance of being re-elected at the next union meeting. Get even a couple of bob a week extra for members and you will be a hero and they will keep you.
No matter the damage they may do to the economy in general. Jobs may be lost but the union official will tell them that it is for the 'betterment of the cause'. The only betterment is for those at the top of the union.

As to the corporate sector, the unions and Labor will continue to call them names and attempt to bring them down. But without the ones at the top there would be no companies so no work.

That's why the government should state the minimum wage structures and not the union. You cant have it all ways like most governments do sitting back and saying its got nothing to do with us. It has everything to do with them. They have government departments who have supposedly experts in this field, let them earn their money instead of browny points. I wont vote for the present leader of the Labour party because I like a lot of other people know his background. In my opinion he doesn't have the moral disposition to be the leader of a country. This doesn't necessary say I will vote for his opposite number. I voted for his predecessor as believe he was the man for the job at the time and he was, I think Turnbull for all his charm doesn't appeal to me until he achieves something and stops thinking he is doing a good job smiling into the camera. I think both the main parties are both going to find out at the next election that they are not the main parties anymore. The people as usual will tell them how good they are. Cheers JS

They were not happy.
