I wonder in a few years time if a think tank will be set up to investigate what affect all these job losses will have on the economy. We will become a country where jobs will disappear for the sake of making bigger payouts for the shareholder.Employment is the lifeblood of the country, people working paying income tax which is the countrys' income.People not working not paying tax but in receipt of benefits which is a drain on the country also do not have the money to spend the same as a person who is working.Henry Ford was delighted when he got robots to build his cars,he commented "Robots do not hold a union card" he was told yes you are right but also robots don't buy cars.Yes so keep slashing jobs and lets have more people not paying tax and in receipt of benefits and we will have a far bigger deficit than what we have now, whats the saying "you ain't seen nothing yet". Just a thought.

I don't think there will be an answer to that Jim.
Progress, is happening like it or not, we cannot stop it. The Unemployed do not invest money to build Factories, Robots will be building them , The Investors want a return on their Investments, What can the unemployed do about it,? Halewood is full of robots doing what men used to do.
If we do not have robots, China does, and Japan and Korea , so the industries here have to compete,
It is a never ending circle,
The only way is taxing the Investors to pay people not to work and that will not be possible as they will invest overseas. so that is what they call progress. Good or Bad.
It is now a different world than the 50s and 60s in our heyday. So don't know what the future will hold.
Soon Robots will be building Robots. People are becoming obsolete. Not a good future for our grandchildren.
I see that China is Investing £250,000,000,000 in UK to build the prefabricated houses, and we give them aid. So what is all that about.
The country and the world is going mad.
It is time to go, but I don't know where to.

And wait till the black hole in the pensions kick in , about 20 years at a guess, lots of people, even when employed, and not drawing till70, just not providing for retirement. Most will have a miserable old age, will have to be supported, but where will the money come from ??? . The system only works when people pay today, for those that need today. When their turn comes the pot will be empty, kt
You have that spot on Keith. How about a conspiracy theory,Arthur Scargill was a Maggie Thatcher plant,we will know in anothr 70 years time.

supporters of the labour party are always going on about companies making bigger profits for the shareholders.Do any of them know who the shareholders are.Pension funds ,insurance funds, charity funds and the ordinary mans endowment fund or private pension. There are very few investors today large enough to influence decisions on dividend payouts.
Point taken John my post was more about loss of jobs,so lets keep the shareholders out of it a job loss is a job loss no matter what, or who someone votes for.
