How times have changed
In the sixties when I started work a holiday to the Isle of Man was the seen as the epitome, if you wanted to go further join the MN.
Now a days travel to the young is not a problem, my oldest son and his partner flew out to Beijing on Christmas Eve, with a connecting flight to Ho Chi Minh City, we couldn't do that, how times have changed.

Vic

They used to advertise, "

The Ship owner used to pay me for taking his ships around the world, now I have to pay them so they are getting all their money back,

Hope it's not like here Des, only those with Burkhas can remain!, some Canadians and Americans here in the UK are being threatened with deportation, despite being here for 30 - 50 years, worked here, paid their taxes, served in UK Forces and have British wives, families and even grandchildren, so the logic of the Immigration services defies logic, but of course if you arrive at Heathrow and/or Gatwick you will be hard pressed to find a caucasian immigration officer and no doubt head office is manned by the same yardstick so there are modes in taking over the indigenous peoples surrepsticiously

Re: How times have changed
In Yesterdays news,
Immigration Officers said the illegals are refusing to sign the deportation papers, so they are unable to deport them. ?????????
.
A 92 year old white lady who was living on her own, from South Africa, is to be deported, she came to live with her daughter who is British in Bournemouth for the little time she has left.
.
The Hate Preacher who Radicalised Jihadi John, who beheaded the Brits in Syria , is allowed to stay, even tho` he is here illegally, His children have got themselves British passports.
.
Cameron Has Increased Aid to India by another £112,000,000 to around £350,000,000 a year
Two days ago India has bought $7,000,000,000, SEVEN BILLIONS, of weapons off Russia.
WHY????????????????
.
We have to have cut backs in all our Services, I have to Pay Income Taxes on my miserable pension to help pay for all this.
Let us hope that Cameron is Sectioned under the Mental Health Act this year.
.
I am going back to bed for the duration, I cannot face anymore of this Stupid Countries Political decisions.
Brian.

Re: How times have changed
As an ex Police Officer it made my blood boil when the descion was made by some magistrates to BAIL three defendents who refused to give their names and address to the court. I just could not understand the reason and logic behind it. In my view the proper logic would have been for them to be held in contempt of court and told they would be placed in a cell until they purged their contempt by giving their names and addresss. Then to add insult to injury the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute them for the same reason, I woud say unbelievable but unfortunately it is true, The C.P.S. is better known as the Criminals Protection Service and for good cause looking at the descions they come out with in some cases. I could go on but it would only raise my blood pressure.

Re: How times have changed
Talking of travel a thought came to me yesterday after watching a video which included the booking hall in Cunard Building. Two large counters for booking your ticket to sail with Cunard 1st Class & Tourist. So before internet, telephone and travel agents did people have to travel into cities to book their reservations with whatever shipping company that they were to travel with. This booking hall in Cunard Bldg was still in use in the 60's.

Re: How times have changed
In the 1940s and 50s after the war, my millionaire uncle Jack from Blackpool, with dozens of amusement arcades, and boarding houses, Dads brother, nowt to do with Dad he was always broke. he and all his family of six went to Cape Town every winter from November to Easter to stay with another Uncle.
He had to go down to the Union Castle Office in London to book the voyage to the Cape and back.
He always paid in cash. several thousand pounds. [ no money in the bank], a room at home stacked with Money from floor to ceiling, all in notes. Just like a paper warehouse, I happened to see it once.
After a few years of paying cash at the UCL Office, the Inland Revenue got on his trail.
He suddenly disappeared with his family and reappeared later in the States.
So in those days you had to go to the Shipping Office.

Re: How times have changed
HI All.
Our immigration service is still on the ball down here, the people smugglers in Indonesia having been telling people that they are on holiday and they can now sneak into Aus. Not so said our chief of Staff, they had in the last two months turned around two boats full to the brim, back to their country of origin, which I suspect is shrilanka.
