when they built the 2nd crossing of the River Severn they used a similar technology with a machine placing new concrete road sections in place before moving on. The sections were clued together by hand and cables passed through then. They started from both sides and when they met in the middle they were millimetres out.
There was a documentary on it on the BBC some years ago so it may be on UTube now.
