yes remember that time into whites jim ....some of them engineers and ist trip apprentices had the wrong size gear shorts like long johns and wrong sized shirts ......remember a chief engineer on a shell tanker ......he was a great guy but looked very like charlie chaplin and walked the same he came along the flying bridge in whites honestly atleast three times to big for him ....i was smiling trying not to laugh ....whereupon he said to me ......ok thats enough dont be bleedin cocky ...or words to that effect .....one of my good mates was a young sparky who came abourd in also a unofom fit for a 17stone bloke and him being about 9 stone .....even he laughed about it but i am a great believer in tradition and long may it be so.....regards cappyQuote:

That is probably the best way to do it. Grasping it between your teeth also helps - unless you have an Astral set (come out at night ) I now use a top sheet as well so I don't have to change the darn thing so often. I think they would be easier if the fastening was down one side. Either way , they are a pain.
Men go to the gym - women just do housework.......

With sheets you can dhobi them, put them on the line and if it's a sunny day make the bed again after an hour.
I think it would be struggle to get a duvet into a washing machine, getting it dry again must take ages, unless you have a strong flagpole in the garden and you can hoist it up to flap in wind.
Hopefully my wife will be on her feet again tomorrow and I will be free of all these domestic problems.

It's only the duvet COVER that goes in the washing machine. For goodness sake, don't try pushing the duvet in or you'll be in big trouble......

a mate of mine worked for slumberland as a wedding present he had duvet made for us double filled with duck down when we took it out of the box it swelled up like a life raft we gave in away it was to heavy to sleep under? jp

1:Most household drums are not large enough unless 9lb capacity.
2: Depending on content of filling, a double size would take best part of a windy day outside on line, with a finish off in the tumble dryer for good measure.
Unless of course you're up here!! 2hrs max but you'll need vaseline on your face before retrieving:)
Feathers of any kind your talking days and t/dryer again if allowed by manufacturer, followed by umpteen vigorous shakes in between. If you must, use a laundrette [dear enough] rather than dry cleaners who are extortionate. My advice.....leave well alone.....

Hi All.
Now long retired I thought I used to help my wife a lot with some of the house work, I now do most of the heavy work like vacuum cleaning, polishing, window cleaning etc and I often tell her now how I didn't realize how much work there was in a home, funny thing is she says that she doesn't know how I do all the work I do around the house, and whether it's a con; she does say that I'm the stronger one.
As for dooner's, we have single beds and very seldom put a cover on the them, we get the son to wash them he has a big washing machine, in the sun here dries in a few hours.
