#41, Captain, Speaking of nursing fees, my hubby was born in a private Nursing Home as his parents lost their first child at birth five years before in the marital home. As my father in law earned his living as a professional gambler he decided next time his wife would be taken care of by medical staff. Unfortunately he didn't have a particularly successful month and mother & child had to stay a fortnight till he cleared the bill:).....If I ever write a book for family it will be called "When daddy get's a turn";)

#50 Cappy, When younger could never understand why my dad would always venture over to the east of the city on a regular basis after he moved to the south. Now that I am more mature

She was OK she was sucking on Gas and Air,
Giving birth is a rather messy job and a lot of cleaning up afterwards. Cant go into details.

In one of my shore jobs, when I wasn't travelling abroad, I had a 60 mile drive to work every morning and 60 mile back again in the evening, from near Brighton to Aldgate East, couldn't face it now although I regularily drive the 400 miles 'oop north' to see one of our daughters

My mother in law gave birth to nine at home no worries.
But the amount of social benefits given out is getting out of hand in so many countries. Here in Oz the gov is beginning to look into the whole system of benifits, as a result many will now be means tested.

#####your right there charlie ....not every weekend ......my grandkids often come on a sat or sunday and of course they are the great thing to pat and me now.....but we both love shields and of course we get to the sea.....which we miss.....the village life is different to our shields life.......a lot quieter.......but of course....its more what is needed as you get older......but there you are .....theres always something to moan about .....just put the bins out its bloody freezing .......but then its a seamans right to moan........the beloved must have been a bosun ......now and again ...lol....cappy

H.D.John in oz.your 56#.Large family's are the tax payers of tomorrow,if we were limited to one child per family the tax returns to the government would be well down.As in my large family case (no benefits and had to pay the doctor in those days) ten of us grew up and worked all our lives paying tax,we have thirty children between us all paying tax,some of them have children working paying tax.Oh and big families are also good during wars,three brothers,1 Army,1 RN and one MN..The TV companies have a lot to answer for,they search a poor area seeking out a large family on benefits.Yes we get £26.000 we smoke we have a four wheel drive seven seater car,viewers see this and imagine everyone on benfits is living the life of Riley this is why people who are unfortunate to be on benefits are stigmatised.One of our friends they had nine,he was a docker never on benefits all those kids have done well for themselves and are paying tax.

Jim every case is different. I only have what could be considered a very moderate pension, but the same as Brian Kong get taxed. Yet at the same time have friends receiving bigger pensions than me and paying no tax. Out here unless you have a good accountant to advise you, or are able to understand the complex laws one is stuffed. I have had 3 different accountants in 22 years and still have to pay tax and have got to the stage and say what the hell just pay it. Life is too short to worry about money all the time. That old song "Money is the root of all evil" was quite apt. When I first retired was terrified that would be going into debt, it never happened, and if the tax man is so hard up then consider it a gift. Cheers John S

strange statement that jim when the most populated countries in the world ie china ...india pakistan etc......are the poorest ......plus at this time the uk is overpopulated....and the books are harder to balance than ever.....regards cappy
