I still have the reciept, she was in for two weeks, it says 14 days, so she must have had a very difficult birth with problems, My brothers and sisters were all born at home.
You had to pay to be treated in hospital in those days.

Both my sons were born at home and I helped to deliver both with a young trainee midwife.
Quite an ordeal but we did it.

#45... Maybe that's why us oldies have lived so long, as had to pay to see a doctor cash on visiting was very rare to go, home cures and no such things as tablets. (not computer types). Our whole upbringing was different, we had to work from an early age, not like some who now never work in their life. Remember my cousin who was 6 years older than me and just died recently, when he said to his father he wanted to go to sea as an engineer, his father said I don't care what you want to be, you can be a road sweeper if you want, but whatever it is I expect you to be the best Goddam road sweeper there is, my uncle was a ships riveter. The only thing that working class families wanted was to see their offspring have a better life than they had had especially after the depression and then the war years. I spent the first 11 years of my life living in other peoples houses in furnished rooms. Nowadays whether working or not youngsters expect a 3/4 bedroom house, fitted carpets throughout, and think this is the norm. Everything in this life should by rights be have to be worked for, this no longer applies and it is a large percentage living off welfare and the backs of those who do work and have further aspirations to advance themselves. The world is not what it used to be, I certainly prefer the old to the new. JS
John i understand why i am getting this amount i only worked back home for 19 years then backed out so it's reasonable to me at least why i get it.Others work there life time there they are entitled to what they get matter of fact they are worth a lot more as they kept the country moving.I believe you have to work over twenty or twenty five years to receive full pension,In this country i am classed as an Australian as i took the oath,those who never took the oath are the ones who are refused it.I am on a reduced pension here because of my circumstances.I am not kicking i live a good life over here,but as i stated in a previous post i still miss my hometown!
#47... Ditto Charlie, have no regrets either and not complaining. But others have a genuine grievance which has not been redressed. Further to this it has I believe been in the past taken to the European Court of Human Rights who found in favour of the government. Probably saw money slipping away from the ever consuming mouth of Europe. cheers John S
