What did he say to up Putin.
Beware all you chaps down under, I wonder what on earth your Prime Minister said to upset Mr Putin for him to send this lot 1415780378023_wps_16_China_s_Yantai_Type_054A_.jpg down to your shores.

The Department of Defence chief Mark Binskin has downplayed the strength of the Russian naval fleet.
Asked why Russia was sending four ships to the international summit instead of the usual one or two, he indicated they weren't all warships.

Re: What did he say to up Putin.
Well our PM did say he would 'shirt front' him
But now we have sent two ships out there to see what his ships are doing. They could of course be playing sea draughts, your move now!!!!

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: What did he say to up Putin.
Seeing the alarms the media is trying to spread to make out a story re Russian Naval vessels in the Pacific Ocean, why shouldn't they be there. Not so long back the US navy was sending vessels to the South China Sea when there were signs of confrontation between the Chinese and Japanese. The Oceans of the world are still free for all to transit or do what they do such as convey goods from A to B. As regards being a threat to Australian Merchant Shipping they would have a hard job to find as believe could probably count on fingers and toes. This also applies to Australian capital warships. Russia is still a huge naval power and will soon be matched by China. The only countries who have had very little foresight have been mainly the uk. Although they could ask nicely for any threatening nation to hold back while they attempted to try and catch up. As regards merchant shipping they would have to try and time charter such vessels from their probable opponents before hostilities broke out. JS

Re: What did he say to up Putin.
Cappy wish I could remember the name of the russki ship I was on. Got a card and nice letter from her master when I retired in 2002, he"s probably retired now as well by now, or maybe he"s the Russian commodore in charge of the flotilla sent to show the flag. Or could be he"s after the bottle of Vodka I didn't pay for. Brian he"s talking about you on the card, I had you down for the handsome one, he"s probably got that one down for himself. You look very sunburned in the picture Cappy. Gwen as you know has two squashed disks in her back and believe I said once before she didnt take too kindly to my saying I used to tow oil rigs around easier than getting her on and off the sometimes steep steps on the coach, however she is talking to me again. I never let on to her about your adventures with the kiwis or the emus in Australia as she wouldn't understand. Hope you are back to normal now. Love to Pat and tell her she has my sympathy. Keep well John S
