Is Britain Broke???
Cameron spends a lot of time telling us we is Broke and to make cut backs in all our Services.
.
Today he has announced that we are giving the good old US £ FIVE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED MILLION
5.8 BILLION. To buy Military vehicles.
Can Britain not build vehicles anymore??.
What have politicians done to our once great Nation. They should all be charged with Treason.
On Merchant Navy Day we cannot even ship them over on a British ship.
This is after giving Ukraine Millions of pounds in Military Aid to kill civilians in the east, and also the Slamicals in Syria half a billion pounds of military equipment who have now turned it against us.
Is there no way of having these `people` sectioned under the Mental Health Act??
Brian.

Re: Is Britain Broke???
David Cameron is to announce an order of nearly 600 new infantry vehicles for the British army this week at the Nato summit in Wales as part of an effort to demonstrate the UK’s commitment to higher defence spending.
With Russia taking military action in Ukraine, this Nato summit has become the most important for the alliance in more than 20 years. Defence spending set to be central.
The prime minister will unveil plans to buy 589 Scout armoured reconnaissance units from General Dynamics UK as a milestone in a multibillion-pound project that has been in gestation for years, people familiar with Number 10’s thinking told the Financial Times. The vehicles, which are being developed in Wales at a site a few miles from the summit near Cardiff, will be fitted with advanced communications devices needed for modern warfare. The government has earmarked funding to the Scout project as part of its long-running Future Rapid Effect System to upgrade its infantry vehicles. It paid £500m in 2010 to develop seven prototype vehicles. These were unveiled by General Dynamics in June this year following trials.
Army chiefs are likely to welcome the plans at a time when headlines have been dominated by expenditure on the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
ALthough being an American company General Dynamics UK Limited is a leading prime contractor and complex systems integrator working in partnership with government, military and civil forces and private companies around the world.General Dynamics UK has 50 years experience in technical leadership, manufacturing expertise and prime contract management skills to deliver C4I communications solutions, Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) technology,
General Dynamics UK has two world-class facilities in the UK with more than 700 highly skilled members of the team.

Re: Is Britain Broke???
Broke or not we can always fund more efficient ways of killing people. The sick, elderly, disabled and underprivileged can wait in line for anything left.
How much has been wasted on overseas aid and wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya ? The weapons we poured into those countries are now being used against us.

Re: Is Britain Broke???
Whilst not disputing one word that you say Louis , these vehicles will be better protection for our soldiers against IEDs , and I prefer our soldiers to get back home as intact as possible

Thanks for that
On Al Jazeera News they said the order was to the Americans. No mention on BBC
The Profits will still go back to the US..
and they should stop interfering in other countries
Cheers

Re: Is Britain Broke???
I see the news and often wonder just who is kidding whom? So called British man cutting heads off, more bloodshed now than in WW2, and UK, USA, China and Russia supplying the arms! But yes you do need a strong army, defence of the nation is the prime responsibilty of any government and as you now have a very large fifth column in the UK I think you will need all the army you can muster.
Is the UK broke, I doubt it but it may have a very large mortgage.

Re: Is Britain Broke???
My argument is not about our armed services, the majority of whom are working class kids who joined for a job and training. I feel sorry for the poor b*ggers, they have no choice but to follow orders, they do not start conflicts but clean up the mess left by politicians.
Iraq and Libya were both wealthy, stable countries unfortunately ruled by dictators, now both lay in ruins over run with terrorists. When the last of the troops leave Afghanistan the same situation will apply there. All the lives lost, billions spent, what has been achieved ?

Re: Is Britain Broke???
The British Army is to get 589 armoured vehicles after the Ministry of Defence agreed a £3.5bn deal with US defence giant General Dynamics that will support 1,300 UK jobs.
The American company’s UK arm won the order for Scout specialist vehicles having seen off competition from BAE Systems for the contract four years ago.
The deal – the biggest single order for land vehicles the Ministry of Defence has placed in three decades – will provide the Armoured Cavalry with a new generation of light vehicles which will be used for roles including surveillance. Deliveries of the Scouts will begin in 2017 and are expected to run until 2020.
The new vehicles will be the successor to the Scimitars currently used by the Royal Armoured Corps and reconnaisance elements of the armoured infantry. They will also have the ability to carry out roles currently fulfilled by Spartan armoured vehicles.
But it is a two way flow BAE systems the American subsidiary of BAE Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, BAE Systems, Inc. employs approximately 43,000 employees in the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Israel, Mexico, and South Africa, and generated 2011 sales of $14.4 billion. BAE Systems, Inc. provides support and service solutions for current and future defense, intelligence, and civilian systems; designs, develops and manufactures a wide range of electronic systems and subsystems for both military and commercial applications; produces specialized security and protection products for law enforcement and first responders; and designs, develops, produces, and provides service support of armored combat vehicles, artillery systems, and munition
So we get the profits on that lot from the US
